---------------------------------

Elizabeth Corday, a member of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) comes from a long line of surgeons. In an effort to distinguish herself further, she came to America in 1997 in order to take part in a fellowship program at County General that would allow her to gain experience in trauma surgery.

After a bit of a transitional period where she had to get used to the change in medical terms, Corday quickly settled into the surgical staff and proved herself as a valuable and competent surgeon.

When Dr. Romano unexpectedly terminated her fellowship, Corday took the drastic step of repeating her intern year in order to get her license to practice in America. It was during this time that she was briefly romantically linked to Dr. Peter Beton. It was also during this time that after a 36 hour long shift, she almost killed a patient by misreading the medication dosage she was giving him. Though upset by her mistake, she used the experience as an oportunity to campaign for better conditions for the junior medical staff.

After finally completing her internship, Dr. Romano announced that she would now be Associate Chief of Surgery, without asking her. Reluctantly, Corday took the job and soon discovered the dark side of hospital politics.

------

After her brief entanglement with Dr. Benton ended, Corday and Dr. Mark Green began a relationship.

Unfortunately, just after the pair bought a house together and found out they were pregnant, Dr. Greene was diagnosed with a brain tumour. The tumour was successfully removed by a specialist in New York.

Eventually, the pair married and had a daughter, Ella. Unfortunaly, Greene's daughter from his first marriage, Rachel, showed up in Chicago unexpectedly and brought a whole slew of trouble with her. A bit of a Wild Child, Rachel was soon getting into trouble at school and leading her father to believe that she was not only smoking, but doing drugs as well. Just as Rachel seemed to be calming down and settling into life in Chicago, Ella overdosed on Ecstasy that she had found in Rachel's bag. Though Ella survived, Elizabeth packed the toddler up and moved into a hotel when Greene refused to call the police or send Rachel back to her mother in St. Louis.

While all of this was going on, Greene learned that his tumour had returned. Not wanting Corday to come home because he was sick, he didn't tell her and started chemo and radiation alone, eventually leaning on an old friend, Dr. Susan Lewis, for help. Corday eventually learned the truth and returned home with Ella to be with Greene.

Knowing that he was dying, Dr. Greene set about 'fixing Rachel' by taking her to Hawaii, the one state he spent most of his childhood in. While there, however, Dr. Greene suffered a seizure in front of Rachel. Scared, the teenager called Corday and soon she and Ella arrived in Hawaii to spend what little time Greene had left together.

Greene eventually died and at his funeral, Corday assured Rachel that she could still come and visit Ella, she was her sister after all. Corday also chose to head back to England after Greene's death, to try and figure out what to do next. She soon discovered that she had lived in the States too long nad had picked up to many American idiosyncracies to fit in with the other British surgeons, even if her father was a promenent surgeon at the hospital. She soon returned to the States and County General.

Corday's personal life became interesting soon after returning to the States. Even though she was slightly concerned that she was moving on too quickly after Greene's death, Corday soon found herself in a relationship with a teacher who also had a young daughter the same age as Ella. Things became even more complicated when she began seeing a second man, a Doctor at County, at the same time. The two men eventually met and they both broke up with her.

Corday's career took a leap forward when Dr. Robert Romano was killed in a helicopter accident. She became Chief of Surgery in 2003.

In early 2004, Dr. John Carter convinced Corday to perform an illegal organ donation procedure between two HIV positive patients. While the transplant was successful, Dr. Kerry Weaver, a memeber of the hospital board, found out and Corday was nearly dismissed from the staff and she nearly lost her license. Eventually, Weaver offered her a clinical instructors position with no possibility of tenure. Realising that her career was all but over at County General, Corday resigned her position at the hospital and returned to England with her daughter.
